Thank you for your patience as I work on getting art projects up and working on the art site. It's been encouraging to hear from so many of you and your students, and see what they're creating at home! I've come across some amazing creative opportunities from famous and beloved authors, illustrators, and other creators for our students and am sharing them in this post. You can find the comprehensive list and more information HERE on the website. I'll be updating the list regularly, so keep checking back! Mo Willems Lunch Doodle Sessions If you're familiar with the beloved children's book, 'Don't Let the Pigeon Drive The Bus' or the Elephant & Piggie books, then you might be as excited as I was to hear that the author & Illustrator, Mo Willems, recorded live drawing sessions over the last two weeks that your student can access HERE, complete with a Mo Willems designed 'Social Distancing Doodler's Diploma' that can be downloaded at the end of the 15 sessions. Spy Hop Rewired Intro to Hand Drawn Animation, April 7-9, 2-3pm (MST), Ages 10-17 Ages 10-17 Spy Hop is a local nonprofit that introduces students in the community to creative media platforms like digital photography, moviemaking, animation, screenwriting, etc. They're offering a free online workshop in Animation, April 7-9, 2-3pm (MST) for students ages 10-17. Students will come away with a new skill and their own animated flip book. You can find information and REGISTER HERE (This workshop is filling up fast. It's likely they will continue offering more due to their popularity and I'll keep you and your students updated via our art webpage). Grace Lin posts read-aloud and draw-along videos: Author & Illustrator of 'Where the Mountain Meets the Moon,' 'Starry River of the Sky,' and many other stunning children's books posts videos on her YouTube channel HERE. She also hosts the podcast Kids Ask Authors. Carson Ellis, Illustrator, 'Wildwood' and 'Lemony Snicket' books Illustrator Carson Ellis is leading art classes for adults and kids alike with her Quarantine Art Club. Every day will have a different drawing prompt to get the creativity going. Where to find it: @carsonellis Jarrett Lerner, Illustrator Comic book illustrator Jarrett Lerner is releasing a series of activities each day, including blank comic book pages, a “character-maker,” blank clothes your kids can help design, and a “Finish This Comic” Activity. Where to find it: Lerner’s website Tony DiTerlizzi and Angela DiTerlizzi Authors and Illustrators of 'The Spiderwick Chronicles' and 'The Search for Wondla' Series, host “Drawn to Fantasy” on Facebook Live weekdays at 3:00 p.m. (EDT) Where to find it: Facebook Live, weekdays at 1:00 pm (MST) Trisha Zemp Designer Trisha Zemp is offering her very popular stop-motion kids camp free. Zemp notes that the class is for kids of all ages—which means grownups are welcome too. Where to find it: @trishazemp E.B. Goodale Children’s book author and illustrator E.B. Goodale is launching “Drawing with toddlers.” Goodale will take requests for what to draw live, “or you can just sit back and watch the chaos.” It’s specifically geared toward toddlers “because that’s what I’ve got on my hands,” she says in the post, “and their attention span is short. It will be a messy experiment!” Frequency: Daily on weekdays; 11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT Where to find it: @ebgoodale Thyra Heder Heder is offering a bunch of creative projects on her Instagram feed and stories: make animal costumes out of cardboard and Scotch tape, or animal masks out of cereal boxes. The best part is that all of her projects use basic supplies and kitchen staples. Frequency: TBD Where to find it: @thyraheder Oliver Jeffers Jeffers will be reading his popular books like How to Stuck, The Day the Crayons Quit, Catch a Star, Lost and Found, and more. Frequency: Daily; 2 p.m. ET/11a.m. PT Where to find it: @oliverjeffers Sophie Blackall Children’s book author and illustrator Sophie Blackall is reading from some of her favorite books too, including Ivy and Bean and Hello Lighthouse.
